China has cracked down two video sharing platforms due to harmful content

Beijing. April 9. Silkroadnews – China’s Internet regulator has cracked down on two of China’s popular platforms for sharing short videos, Kuaishou and Huoshan, after they were found to be sharing harmful and vulgar content, People’s Daily reports.
Recently, these two video platforms have been widely criticized for promoting video of pregnant teenagers. Teen mothers, some of whom are only 13 years old, actively promoted their videos on video platforms, trying to increase the number of their followers. Due to the increasing popularity of such videos, the platforms often showed them in the lists of recommended videos.
China’s Cyberspace Administration ordered Kuaishou and Huoshan to crack down on this type pf harmful and vulgar content. The next day, Kuaishou and Huoshan applications were removed from Android app stores, and updates are no longer available for Apple iOS versions.
Reportedly, allowing teenagers to publish such videos, Kuaishou and Huoshan act against the interests of public morality, encourage inappropriate lifestyle for young people and pollute the Internet environment.
Kuaishou and Huoshan have publicly apologized and promised to change the policy of providing their services, remove vulgar or propagandizing violence content and block the authors of inappropriate content. In addition, users under the age of 18 will be prohibited to register as a livestream host.
Kuaishou has 120 million daily active users and Huoshan has 53 million, according to figures from mobile app market analysts QuestMobile, the publication reads.
