China to deliver $22 million worth weapons and ammunition to the Philippines
Almaty. October 5. Silkroadnews – China intends to deliver $22 million worth weapons and ammunition to the Philippines, the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported.
“The Philippines is set to receive on Thursday, weapons and ammunition worth $22 million as the second batch of China’s commitment to help Manila in its fight against terrorism,” the report said.
It is noted that Beijing, through the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines, Zhao Jianhua, will formally hand over weapons to the Chief Gen. Eduardo Año and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana at Camp Aginaldo in the city of Quezon, in the capital of Manila.
Military assistance is said to include 3,000 M4 rifles, 3 million different ammunitions and 30 sniper scopes and is assumed to be of help in the firepower of the Philippine troops not only in the siege in Marawi, but also in other areas of the country where military operations are continuing.
Last June Beijing provided the first batch of military aid worth around $7.24 million. The Chinese government also donated $1.27 million for treatment and recovery of wounded in the clashes in the city of Marawi. “It also gave P5 million ($97,780) for the troops killed and wounded in the clashes, another P15 million ($293,000) last June to support relief operations and rehabilitation efforts in the war-torn city,” the publication reads.
According to the report, relations between the Philippines and China have improved when the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte decided to temporarily leave the territorial disputes between Manila and Beijing over the South China Sea to revive the economic relations between the two countries. In October 2016, Duterte returned home after a state visit to China with approximately $24 billion of investment and loans.
