Beijing. Jul 9. Silkroadnews - The Chinese government has directed the national media not to use ‘aggressive language’ against the U.S. President Donald Trump, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to TASS.
“It’s been said that we should not use aggressive language for Trump,” the South China Morning Post newspaper quoted the source on Monday.
The authors of the article note that, despite criticism of the White House trade policy, the PRC journalists continue to refrain from negative statements about the U.S. leader and his officials.
Apparently, the Chinese side seeks avoiding escalation of tension in relations with D. Trump and complication of the negotiation process, the newspaper’s commentators write.
According to Sow Keat Tok, a University of Melbourne lecturer on China’s foreign relations, quoted by the publication, the growing trade and economic tension between Beijing and Washington comes without the mutual attacks by the two countries’ leaders.
“Restraining the state media is important, lest some enthusiastic reporters mention Trump in their pieces. The message is not to antagonise Trump personally, but [to] keep the affair in the realm of state policy,” he said.
To remind, last week, the U.S. introduced a 25% tariff on about $34 billion worth of Chinese goods. In the near future, the U.S. authorities plan imposing additional tariffs on $16 billion worth Chinese products. The White House has taken the move to eliminate the imbalance in trade with China amounting, according to D. Trump, to about $500 billion. These protectionist measures aroused a negative reaction by the Chinese government, which, despite the general trend of China’s opening up to the world, announced its intention to give an adequate response to Washington through the introduction of similar tariffs.
