Iran plans to build a highway to the Mediterranean Sea, Al-Quds Al-Arabi reports
Beijing. April 9. Silkroadnews - Iran plans to build a highway connecting Tehran with cities in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon and provide the country with access to the Mediterranean Sea, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports citing Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper.
According to sources of the publication, the authorities of the Islamic Republic has signed bilateral agreements on the construction of a 1,700 km long track with authorities in Baghdad and Damascus.
The project, expected to be realized within two years, will be carried out by an Iranian company. The motorway will connect Tehran with ports in Syria and Lebanon, as well as with the capitals of these states.
The project cost and terms are not disclosed, however, as expected, it will pay off in five years after commissioning. Tehran intends to use a new transport artery for the transit of Iranian products to the ports of the Mediterranean Sea in Lebanon and Syria for subsequent exports, the newspaper writes.
The Iranian side has not yet made any official comment in this regard.
