Iran provided the Europeans with oil discount
Almaty. January 20. Silkroadnews - Iran has reduced the oil price for consumers at the European market to compete with Saudi Arabia, “Lenta” writes.
According to the “National Iranian Oil Company”, a discount on the Iranian oil Iran Heavy (included in the OPEC basket with price of $23.85 per barrel) shall make $6.55. Saudi Arabia sells its oil with a discount of $4.85 per barrel.
On January 18 the Iranian government approved the increase on oil production by 500 thousand barrels per day.
A day earlier the US and EU announced the lifting of sanctions against Iran. Tehran and “six” international mediators (the US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany) have reached an agreement on the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic. It was agreed to turn the plant in Fordo to technology center, while a reactor in Arak to be rebuilt according to the international consortium project. The spent fuel will be exported outside the country.
On the news about the lifting of sanctions from Iran the fall of oil prices got accelerated. A barrel of Brent crude oil fell below $28 level.
In October 2015 a number of oil companies in Europe, in particular, Eni and Total, have started to buy oil in Saudi Arabia. Kingdom also started to deliver hydrocarbons at a discount in Poland.
