Legislation on intentional participation in armed conflicts abroad to toughen up in Kazakhstan

Astana. March 20. Silkroadnews – The Upper Chamber of Kazakh Parliament reviewed the Criminal Code. It suggested an amendment to toughen up punishment for an intended and unlawful participation in armed conflicts and military operation on the territory of the foreign country without evidence of contractual relationship. The amendment would result in 3 to 7 years of imprisonment for an offence of that kind.
It is highlighted that the tendency of Kazakhstan nationals leaving the country for possible participation in armed conflicts initiated by the International Terrorist Organizations.
Law enforcement bodies and special forces admit that their main limitation for trying to control this situation is related to imperfections of current legislation and lack of legal leverage to punish individuals committing this time of offences.
