Beijing. May 22. Silkroadnews - Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev wants to establish direct supplies of Russian gas through the Black Sea, the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG) reports with reference to Izvestia.
“As for the supplies from Russia, Bulgaria needs drop shipment of the gas through the Black Sea. Let’s call it ‘Bulgarian Stream’,” the agency quoted him saying.
According to R. Radev, the approach is motivated by common sense and the requirements of energy security and efficiency not only for Bulgaria, but for the EU as a whole.
The construction of the South Stream gas pipeline, which was to pass through Bulgaria, was canceled in 2014 and replaced by ‘Turkish Stream’ , providing for laying a pipe from Russia to Turkey through the Black Sea.
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy Igor Anansky said the construction of the ‘Bulgarian Stream’ depends on the specific actions of the Bulgarian side. He noted, the gas transportation system is very developed in Bulgaria, making it quite convenient for Russia’s gas delivery. In addition, the path to southern Europe from there is shorter than the one from Turkey.
