U.S. would like Russia to render more assistance to Afghanistan
Beijing. June 21. Silkroadnews - The administration of President Donald Trump would like Russia to render more assistance to the government of Afghanistan, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Alice G. Wells said on Wednesday, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
Russia said is concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and can play an important role in facilitating stabilization efforts in Afghanistan, she said, adding the U.S. would like Russia to do more rendering such assistance to the government of Afghanistan to win or to bring the Taliban in peace talks.
According to the representative of the State Department, neighboring countries, including Russia and Iran, could play an important role in supporting a possible peace process between the Afghan government and the Taliban. Russia is among those countries that would benefit from a political settlement in Afghanistan.
