President Rouhani’s brother was arrested in Iran on suspicion of corruption

17.07.2017 Almaty. July 17. Silkroadnews – President Hassan Rouhani’s brother Hossein Fereydoun was arrested in Iran on suspicion of corruption, the Nation reported.
“Multiple investigations have been conducted regarding this person, also other people have been investigated, some of whom are in jail. Yesterday, bail was issued for him but because he failed to secure it he was referred to prison. If he secures bail, he will be released. But the case will take its course”, newspaper quotes deputy judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejeie saying.
Reportedly, members of the conservative party accuse H. Fereydoun of receiving zero-interest loans and influencing the appointment of two bank directors. One of the bank’s directors was later accused of involvement in “a large corruption scandal” by the Intelligence Services of the Revolutionary Guard, and the other was dismissed as a result of a loud scandal with exorbitant salaries at public institutions.
In October the Audit Court reported that the heads of state banks earned up to 622 million rials ($20,000) a month, while average public sector wages made around $400, which resulted in hundreds of prosecutions and new government salary caps in public institutions.
