US tariffs on Chinese imports could lead to a reduction of 134 thousand US jobs

Beijing. May 3. Silkroadnews - A study published by American researchers says the Trump administration’s proposal to introduce additional tariffs on imports from China could damage the US economy and cost thousands of American jobs, Xinhua reports.
The study was conducted by the national Retail Federation and the Consumer Technologies Association.
According to the study, the US proposal to introduce 25% tariffs on Chinese goods and China’s counter measures are estimated to reduce the US output by almost $3 billion, and nearly 134,000 people are likely to lose their jobs, most of them will be low-skilled workers.
The report also notes, due to the tariffs the number of American farmers will turn into about 6.7% decrease in their net income, and the number of jobs in this sector will decrease by more than 67 thousand. Another 11 thousand jobs will be reduced in the manufacturing sector.
In April the administration of president Trump proposed to charge 25% of tariffs on 50 billion dollars’ worth of Chinese imports.
In response, China has compiled a list of the US goods to become a subject to additional tariffs on $50 billion of imports from the US.
The latest study shows that tariffs are expected to hurt the economy of every state in the US, with the highest job cuts in California, Texas, Florida and New York.
