1.34 million officials were punished for bribery in China since 2013
Almaty. October 9. Silkroadnews - 1.34 million officials were punished for bribery in China since 2013, the US news portal CNBC reported.
“China's anti-graft watchdog said roughly 1.34 million lower-ranking officials have been punished
since 2013 under President Xi Jinping's anti-corruption drive,” the publication says.
Xi, who is preparing for the forthcoming congress of the Communist Party this month, has made the fight against corruption among officials, both low and high ranking, the major policy priority for the current five-year plan.
It is reported that among those who have been punished for bribery since 2013, there are 648,000 officials at the village level, so most of the corruption crimes are associated with small bribes, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said.
While most of the fight against corruption in the country was aimed at representatives of the lower ranks and regional officials, several high-ranking officials have been removed from their posts as well.
In August, the head of the anti-graft committee of China’s Ministry of Finance was himself put under investigation on suspicion of taking bribes. In September, a senior military officer of the Central Military Commission of China was detained and questioned on the facts of corruption-related crimes.
