Almaty. September 20. Silkroadnews – 124 people were arrested for fraud in northeastern China, China Daily reported.
“A total of 124 people in connection with more than 280 Internet and telecom fraud cases were apprehended in northeast China’s Jilin Province”, the report said.
Investigation started when in May a resident of Liaoyuan said she had lost more than 540,000 yuan ($82,000) of investment in an online company in Shaanxi Province. After 80 hours of surveillance and check of transactions data, the police went to Changchun, Qingdao, Changsha and Xi’an to investigate and search for the head office of scammers in a business center in Xi’an.
It is reported that in late August, police in Liaoyuan and Xi’an arrested 124 suspects and seized more than 200 computers and 100 scripts for cheating victims. The suspects were taken to Liaoyuan in early September.
According to the publication, the head of the criminal group, a citizen named Zheng, founded the company in 2016 and lured the university graduates with promises of high pay. They attracted Internet investors under the pretext of sales with immediate high returns.
“The cases involved nearly 100 million yuan (about 15 million US dollars). Further investigation is under way,” the report says.
