2.4 thousand convicted foreigners serving sentences in Kazakhstan

Almaty. October 27. Silkroadnews - in Kazakh prisons serving sentences 2.4 thousand сitizen from other countries, said Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Johann Merkel during consideration of the draft law "On ratification of the treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Italian Republic on the transfer of convicted citizens" on Monday.
He noted that it is "floating" figure.
"For Kazakhstan is very beneficial that these people serve their sentences at home and let their budget support them there", - he said.
"The Kyrgyz Republic does not take all, citing to the damage of national security. Russia takes all of its citizens: this year we passed 49 people. Saving budget for these 49 people was about 160 million tenge",- added J.Merkel.
As explained by J. Merkel, not all countries are taking to their homeland of their own citizens who have committed crimes in Kazakhstan.
