$2.5-million-worth 20 new irrigation channels will be built in Afghanistan

Almaty. June 6. Silkroadnews – The ministry of agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan announced the beginning of construction of 20 new irrigation channels in five provinces of the country, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) repots.

The total project budget makes 148 million afghani (around $2.5 million). The channels will be built in the provinces of Baghlan, Kapisa, Kunar, Laghman and Nangarhar to irrigate about 17 thousand hectares of farmland.

The construction will be carried out by the local private companies within a year. Moreover, as Asadullah Zamir, Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, said, the World Bank plans to provide Afghanistan with $45 million for the water resources rational use.
