4000 households from Chinese province of Shanxi to be relocated due to geological disasters threat
Beijing. February 19. Silkroadnews - According to the province’s authorities, 4000 households from Chinese province of Shanxi will be relocated due to geological disasters threat by mining-triggered geological disasters, the Global Times reported.
The project is a part of a new plan to prevent the consequences of geological disasters in the provinces started in 2014. According to the plan, over the next seven years it is planned to relocate 27,000 families in 656 villages at risk of serious geological disasters.
The average investment for each new home is 120,000 yuan (about $19,000). Each household will have to pay 10% of the cost and the rest will be funded by the governments at the provincial, city and county level.
About one third of the province’s territory is occupied by coal mines. Last year, Shanxi produced about 875 million tons of coal, with an overcapacity cut of 22.6 million tons, the report reads.
