66 Chinese institutions are among the world’s best universities

Almaty. September 6. Silkroadnews - 66 Chinese universities are among the world’s best universities, China Daily reported.
“A total of 66 institutions from China were included in a world university ranking published here Tuesday by the Times Higher Education. According to the 14th annual edition of its World University Rankings, the list of the top 1,000 universities from 77 countries and regions, there are two Chinese mainland institutions in the top 30 for the first time and China boasts more universities in the rankings than ever before”, the report said.
At the same time, it is noted that Peking University has risen from 29th to 27th place, having reached the same rank as the University of Edinburgh and New York University. Tsinghua University rose from 35th place to the 30th, bypassing the University of Melbourne, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Munich LMU. Fudan University rose 39 places taking 116th position. Hong Kong is reported to have six universities in this year’s ranking.
“Globally, the University of Oxford retained first place in the rankings. The University of Cambridge climbed two places to second, overtaking the California Institute of Technology and Stanford University, both in third place”, publication says.
The Times Higher Education, one of the most prestigious university ranking systems, publishes the World University Rankings every year since 2004. Universities are evaluated on 13 separate performance indicators, including teaching, research, etc. The ranking is compiled on the basis of a survey in which more than 20,000 scientists and more than 140 countries participate.
