7:10 abortion to pregnancy ratio in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek. April 30. Silkroadnews – There are 7 abortions per every 10 pregnancies in Kyrgyzstan, Damira Niyazaliyeva, the head of Social Policy Committee said at the working session of Kyrgyz Parliament today.
She says teenage pregnancy numbers are soaring in recent years.
“1 200 abortions involving girls aged 15-17 are performed annually. Another 200 abortions involve girls aged 14 each year. This is the official data. The unofficial numbers are much higher”, the MP added.
“This is happening because young people don’t have access to a lot of information on reproductive health issues”, she concluded, while Kyrgyz Parliament was discussing draft law “On amending Family Code of Republic of Kyrgyzstan”.
