A gallery to protect road against avalanches and rock falls to be built in Kyrgyzstan

Almaty. October 5. Silkroadnews – A gallery to protect Bishkek-Osh road against avalanches and rock falls is planned to be built in Kyrgyzstan, KyrTAG reports.

«The technical assistance provided by the government of Japan assumes a grant aid for purchase of a special air navigation equipment. For this Japan provided about $16 million», Minister of Transport and Roads of Kyrgyzstan Zamirbek Aydarov said at the Kyrgyz-Japanese forum on Wednesday.

According to him, the funds allocated by the government of Japan for Kyrgyzstan are also used to realize the project for the improvement and modernization of the «Manas» airport in Bishkek.

«I'd like to touch on the future projects with Japan, specifically, recovery of Bishkek-Osh-Isfana road. The project assumes about $116 million loan. It will be a unique project to protect Bishkek-Osh highway against avalanches; there will be a 460-meters-long gallery built for this», Z. Aydarov said.

He also added, at present the credit and grant assistance the government of Japan has provided the Ministry of Transport and Roads of Kyrgyzstan with amounts to about $200 million.
