Almaty. August 24. Silkroadnews – A large gas field has been discovered in the north of China, China Daily reports.
“North China’s Shanxi province has discovered a large gas field with an estimated reserve of 545.6 billion cubic meters”, the report said on Thursday.
It is noted that Shanxi is a major producer of coal and has the second largest known coal reserve in the country, its coal and shale gas reserves estimated at 12.7 trillion cubic meters.
According to the report, a large coal field in the area bordering Yushe, Zuoquan and Wuxiang was discovered in 2006. Further research has shown it contains large gas reserves.
Exploration of the field began in 2015, that time its coal gas reserves were estimated at 241.5 billion cubic meters, and shale gas – 304.1 billion cubic meters.
Shanxi province focuses on exploration of gas fields, reducing coal production, as China moves toward cleaner energy economy to reduce air pollution.
