A native of Iran, became the first woman honored with the prestigious award in mathematics

Almaty. August 13. Silkroadnews - The world's first woman honored with the prestigious international award in the field of mathematics, became a native of Iran Maryam Mirzohoni, the Iranian News Agency (IrTAG).
As said in the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) Mirzohoni Maryam was awarded by the highest award in the field of mathematics - the Fields Medal - for her contribution in the understanding of the symmetry of curved surfaces.
It is reported that this award and medal were officially handed over the Iranian scientific XIII International Congress of Mathematicians, which takes place in Seoul.
"It's an honor for me. I'll be happy if this event will give inspiration to other young women who linked their lives with math or science in general. I am sure that the number of women honored by this kind of awards in the coming years will only grow",- said in turn, M. Mirzohoni.
M. Mirzohoni since 2008 is a professor at Stanford University in California. She is fluent in the widest range of mathematical knowledge.
The Fields Prize - international prize and medal, which are awarded once every 4 years at each International Congress of Mathematicians to two, three or four young mathematicians not over 40 years of age (or have reached the 40th anniversary of the year award). In academic circles, the Fields Medal is often called the "Nobel Prize for mathematicians".
