A project to expand irrigated farmland to be implemented in the Afghan province of Faryab

Almaty. November 16. Silkroadnews – During his visit to the province of Faryab the special representative of the president of Afghanistan on cooperation with the CIS countries said that the large-scale irrigation project will be realized on the territory of province in the near future, AfTAG reports.

The project will be implemented in counties of Andkhoy, Khani Chahar Bagh, Kurgkhan and Karamokol and is planned to expand the irrigated farmland by 100 thousand hectares. Some of the fields in the territory of Dzauzdzhan province will also be irrigated.

In his turn the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of Afghanistan Asadullah Zamir said the project plan is developed with participation of international experts and high-class specialists. The cost of works will amount to millions of dollars. Sources of funding have not yet been fully approved.

There are about 500 thousand people living in the counties mentioned. The project will allowing creating thousands of new jobs.
