Almaty. April 6. Silkroadnews – A third of the traffic of Afghan heroin delivered to Russia along the northern route goes through Kazakhstan, UNODC Regional Representative for Afghanistan and Neighboring Countries, Andrey Avetisyan reported, KazTAG writes.

“In terms of drug trafficking it is hard to give any specific figures. However, if we talk about heroine specifically, then in terms of percentage a third of all drug traffic from Afghanistan to Europe goes through the northern route. The countries covered by the northern supply chain are Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and, of course, Kazakhstan. The final consumer within this chain is the Russian Federation”, A. Avetisyan said at the meeting of the steering committees of the UNODC Program for Central Asia in Astana.

According to him, at present, along with the northern channel of drug deliveries from Afghanistan, there are also so-called southern route (coming through Afghanistan to Pakistan and further by sea to Western Europe) and western route (passing through Iran and Turkey, and then again the whole of Western Europe).
