Almaty. May 23. Silkroadnews – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) officials do not exclude the possibility of financing the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, Senior Adviser of the ADB Central and West Asian Department C. Fong, Trend reports.
“The ADB is open for the TAPI project financing”, C. Fong said.
At the same time, he added, it is still too early to discuss which parts of gas pipeline the bank can take part in financing specifically.
The ADB is a transactional adviser for the TAPI project. Earlier the bank has allocated over $4 million in grants for project’s preliminary feasibility study, risk analysis and mitigation, legal advice, market analysis, security studies, etc.
TAPI will provide gas supplies from Turkmenistan. The gas pipeline should run from Turkmenistan’s largest gas field “Galkynysh” through the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar and reach its final point, the Fazilka settlement bordering between India and Pakistan.
Its design capacity is evaluated at 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The length of the pipeline will be 1814 km, including 214 km through Turkmenistan, 774 km passing over the territory of Afghanistan and 826 km through Pakistan.
