Beijing. June 8. Silkroadnews - Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Army General Mohammad Sharif Yaftali said the armed forces will support the relentless fight against the foreign terrorists after the government announced a cease-fire with the Taliban group, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
General Yaftali said he expects the Taliban would also observe the ceasefire. He stressed that the ceasefire concerns only the Taliban and the associated Haqqani terrorist network, while the fight against foreign insurgents will continue, the Afghan Voice Agency writes.
According to General Yaftali, the Afghan troops will continue to attack the terrorists belonging to ISIS Khurasan, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and Al-Qaeda terrorists.
With this General noted, the Afghan forces will not conduct offensive operations against the Taliban, but stressed that the armed forces will remain on the alert to react to any aggression and violation of the ceasefire.
General Yaftali also added that the government will consider extending the ceasefire if the Taliban respond positively and comply with the ceasefire agreement.
This statement was made after President Ghani announced the government states a cease-fire starting from the 27th day of Ramadan to continue until the 5th day of Eid.
President Ghani said the ceasefire is being declared in response to the religious scholars Fatwa issued on Monday where the ongoing conflict and violence was prohibited in the light of the principles of Islam, the report said.
