Afghan film won the Grand Prix at the film festival in China

Almaty. April 7. Silkroadnews - Afghan film “I want the horse, not a wife” became the winner of the short film festival in China, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reports.

As a whole one hundred short films from the Asian countries have been shown during the festival. Afghan director Hamayun Paiz has got the Grand Prix and a cash prize of 8000 yuan ($1200).

The film tells the story of the Afghan teenager named Zal, who’s farther purchased a girl and a horse for his sons and gives the horse to the elder son and the girl to Zal. Zal tells his father that he wanted to get the horse, not a wife.

The $10000-budget film was made in a month. The director of the film noted this is the fourth international prize the film has won.

Critics said the authors succeeded to show the tradition of early marriages in Afghanistan in a very subtle way.
