Afghan governor to release Taliban from prison

Beijing. June 12. Silkroadnews - Governor of the Afghan province of Logar promised to release the Taliban prisoner after the parties announced a cease-fire, the Afghan News Agency (AfTAG) reports.
The pledge was made as Governor Mohammad Anwar Khan Ishaqzai telephoned his Taliban counterpart, Mohammad Naeem Akhundzada. Ishaqzai congratulated the Taliban governor on peace and ceasefire and assured that those imprisoned Taliban members who don’t have criminal record would be released in goodwill gesture, Logar governor’s office said in a statement. He asked the Taliban shadow governor to follow suit in six districts under their control, the agency reported citing the Afghan Voice Agency.
The governor asked to convey his good wishes and greetings to the leader of the Taliban Hebatullah Akhundzada.
Moreover, he invited the shadow governor of the Taliban to take part in the prayer in honor of the first day of Eid in the grand mosque of the province.
Akhundzada replied that he would think over the proposal and act according to the decision that the Taliban would take.
