Afghanistan became a member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank
Almaty. October 19. Silkroadnews - Afghanistan has become a full member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
As noted in the statement of the Ministry of Finance of Afghanistan, the head of the department Eklil Hakimi received the certificate of permanent membership of the AIIB having met with the AIIB president Jin Liqun on the sidelines of the meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank held in Washington.
During the meeting, Hakimi and Liqun discussed the financing of a number of projects, including projects in the field of solar energy, as well as the construction of a railway connecting Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Iran and China.
The statement by the ministry of finance emphasizes that membership in AIIB is of great importance for Afghanistan and will contribute to the financing of major national projects.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is an international organization set up to finance infrastructure projects in Asia. Currently, 56 countries are full members of the organization, while another 24 are prospective members.
