Afghanistan ranked world’s second dangerous country for journalists

Almaty. November 3. Silkroadnews – Afghan Journalist Safety Committee (AJSC) reported 10 journalists have been killed in the country so far this year, the Afghan Telegraph Agency (AfTAG) reports.
Speaking at an event dedicated to the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, a representative of the committee said Afghanistan is the second worst country in the world in terms of danger for journalists.
According to the journalists’ safety committee, this year around 1,000 journalists have been killed around the world, of which 10 journalists were killed in Afghanistan and more than 100 abused. Syria ranks the first in terms of the number of journalists killed.
Meanwhile, UNAMA (the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan) has also expressed concern about growth of violence against journalists in the country and stated that the UN, especially its Security Council, is committed to supporting freedom of expression.
Many analysts say, journalism, as a profession, is one of the most tough and challenging in Afghanistan - especially for women.
The European Union also expressed concern over the continuing violence against journalists in Afghanistan.
