Almaty. February 28. Silkroadnews – The Afghan government strives to add the members of the Taliban leadership, including the leader of the movement Mawlawi Haibatullah Akhundzada, to the sanctions list of the UN Security Council, Afghan news agency (AfTAG) reported.

“For this Afghanistan’s National Security Directorate (NSD) gathers the information required. Such measures are taken not only regarding Mawlawi Akhundzada, but also on a number of other members of the Taliban leadership”, publication says.

As Tawab Ghorzand, a spokesman for the National Security Adviser to the President of Afghanistan, said, this issue had already been discussed during the president’s talks with representatives of the United Nations and will be formally submitted to the UN Security Council soon.

Earlier the NSD press service reported, on February 16 “1988 Committee” of the UN Security Council announced removal of Qari Ahmadullah, the Taliban’s intelligence former head, from the sanctions list.

“A few months ago “1988 Committee” of the UN Security Council provided the Afghan government with a list of 12 people – members of the Taliban leadership. The Afghan authorities conducted a comprehensive investigation on these people in the list and then presented the UN Security Council data saying that 10 people, including Qari Ahmadullah, are no longer alive”, T. Ghorzand summarized.
