Beijing. March 30. Silkroadnews - According to investors, Amazon is negotiating the acquisition of rights to the popular science fiction novel “The Three-Body Problem” by Liu Cixin for $1 billion, the information portal Engadget wrote.
The Internet giant hopes to acquire the rights to the book from the Chinese game developer Youzu Interactive’s Lin Qi and turn it into a three-season Prime Video series.
The question of whether Amazon will get the rights or not is still in the air. The company YooZoo Pictures (a part of Youzu) informed the media that it has exclusive rights to the work and its partnership with Liu Cixin continues. Meanwhile, the author himself said that he had no idea about Amazon’s plans and is not sure if he would be involved.
A deal like this wouldn't be out of line for Amazon, the publication says. The company has already paid $1 billion for “The Lord of the Rings” and insists the deal will grow the work’s audience significantly.
