Amendments to the Constitution of Tajikistan will be put to referendum on May 22

Almaty. February 10. Silkroadnews - Amendments to the Constitution of Tajikistan will be put to the referendum on May 22, TajikTA reported.
“On February 10, 2016, the lower chamber of parliament of Tajikistan approved the draft amendments to the Constitution of Tajikistan the deputies are going to put to referendum on May 22,” - said TajikTA with reference to the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan.
It is noted that the full text of the amendments will be published in the official press of Tajikistan within the nearest three days.
There will be one question for the voting in the national referendum: “Do you support the proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan?”. And 2 possible answers: “yes” or “no”.
To remind on January 22, 2016, the lower chamber of the Tajik parliament considered the draft amendments to the Constitution. According to the amendments proposed, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon will be able to run for the presidency an unlimited number of times. It is also proposed to introduce a uniform age limit for candidates of both chambers of Parliament and judges of the Supreme, Constitutional Court and higher courts at the level of 30 years, as well as abolish the Council of Justice of Tajikistan and exclude the right of citizens to form political parties of the religious, nationalist and atheistic nature.
Tajikistan’s Constitution was adopted by the national referendum on November 6, 1994. It was twice amended and supplemented through the referendum - a bicameral parliament was introduced in 1999, and then in 2003 the presidential term of office was extended from five to seven years.
