Almaty. May 15. Silkroadnews - US technology will give to Iran an additional 40 billion barrels of oil, reported newspaper "Vedomosti".
"The widespread use of new technology of hydraulic fracturing (HF, fracturing) and horizontal drilling, used in the shale formations of the United States, will further get the rest of the world on an existing wells, 141 billion additional barrels of hydrocarbons", - said the publication, citing a study of the international market research firm IHS.
Thus, the greatest benefit from the use of hydraulic fracturing, according to researchers, can get Iran (40 billion barrels), Mexico (14 billion), Russia (12 billion) and China (6 billion).
In addition, the top ten of countries includes the UAE, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Libya and Venezuela. The potential of each of them is estimated at about 4 billion barrels.
Also among the promising areas in this respect are leading the Middle East and Latin America.
To prepare the report, IHS experts examined more than 170 mature fields, as well as the three areas of oil production in France, Tunisia and China.
United States earlier this year tightened the rules for oil and natural gas production by this method on land that is owned by the US federal government.
"Such a step of the US authorities aimed primarily at reduction of the risks of contamination of drinking water with toxic chemicals used in the fracturing", - the report says.
Being introduced new requirements for the design of wells and the collection of industrial waste water tanks and leach fields. In addition, companies engaged in the extraction of hydrocarbon raw materials using hydraulic fracturing, will continue to be obliged to disclose information about what chemicals exactly are used in this process.
Experts also point to the fact that oil production by the method of hydraulic fracturing leads to increased seismic activity. Thus, according to the US Geological Survey, in the US state of Oklahoma in 2014 fracturing was officially recognized to cause amplification of seismic activity. Earthquakes there occurred three times more than in a seismically active California.
