Annual gold production in Iran reached a record six tons

Beijing. January 26. Silkroadnews - Annual gold mining in Iran reached a record six tons, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports referring to the Iran Daily newspaper.
“Iran expects its gold production in the year to March 20, 2018 to reach a record of six tons, which is a 'valuable achievement', said deputy minister of industry, mine and trade Jafar Sarqini,” the report said.
According to him, gold production in Iran will continue to grow, as the country aims to produce 10 tons a year and 25 tons in the long term.
During the year that begins on March 21, the country will pay more attention to small mines’ development.
“Given the economic value of the gold metal, extraction from smaller mines is also is economically viable,” the agency wrote quoting by the minister.
Sarqini singled out the Zarshouran gold deposit in the northwestern city of Takab in Iran as a valuable resource where production is expected to amount to 1 ton of gold this year and 3 tons over the next three years.
Sari Gunay, another gold mine in the western city of Qorveh, is being developed by a Kazakh miner company under a seven-year contract. Sari Gunay, according to the experts’ appraisals, contains 18 tons of gold.
The Zarshouran gold mine is one of the most important projects and is often referred to as the “golden giant of Iran”, which gold reserves, as preliminary estimates show, make 55 tons, but this figure can grow to 110 tons.
