Around 1.8 thousand rare animals live in Tajikistan

Almaty. January 17. Silkroadnews – Tajikistan has carried out monitoring on rare animals living in the territory of the country, Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported on Tuesday.

“Committee for Environmental Protection of Tajikistan together with the staff of the Pavlovsky Institute of zoology and parasitology and Pamir Biological Institute have carried out monitoring of rare animals”, the head of the committee mentioned Khairullo Ibodzoda said during the meeting with journalists in Dushanbe on Tuesday.

As he explained, the monitoring was carried out in the territory of Shamsiddin Shokhin (the former Shuroabad district) and Darwaz districts and the city of Rogun.

The monitoring groups recorded 1542 markhors, 227 mountain Bukhara goats, 120 Siberian goats, 3 snow leopards, 25 brown bears and 180 wild boars living in the territories researched.

Researchers tried their best to be as much accurate as possible in their monitoring, yet, there is a possiblility that true number of rare animals is bigger than monitoring readings.
