As a part of CASA-1000 project Tajikistan plans to build a number of power facilities

Almaty. April 1. Silkroadnews - A number of power facilities will be constructed in Tajikistan within the CASA-1000 project, the Tajik Telegraph Agency (TajikTA) reported on Friday.

“A number of power facilities will be constructed in Tajikistan within the framework of the CASA-1000 regional project. The project provides for the construction of electric power transmission lines, transformers and other facilities in the southern and northern parts of the country, including lines to deliver electricity from Central Asia to South Asia,” representative of the country’s energy sector confirmed.

Beginning of facilities construction is planned for the second quarter of this year.
More than $1 billion worth CASA-1000 project provides for the construction of transmission lines, transformers and other energy facilities for the transmission of electricity from Central Asia to South Asia. This project will allow Tajikistan to export to Pakistan about 1000MW of electricity by 2018. Another 300 MW will be supplied by Kyrgyzstan.

The CASA-1000 project is scheduled to be completed by 2020.

The project is supported by the World Bank (WB), Islamic Development Bank (IDB), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), US State Department, UK Department for International Cooperation (DFID), Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and several other donor communities.

To implement the project Tajikistan needs to attract about $320 mln of investments, Kyrgyzstan - $209mln, Afghanistan - $354 million and Pakistan - $209 million.
