At the joint session to be held on September 8 the Parliament of Uzbekistan will consider the issue of successor to I. Karimov

Almaty. September 8. Silkroadnews – The parliament of Uzbekistan, at the joint session of the upper and lower houses, will discuss the issue of candidacy for Acting President of Uzbekistan after the death of Islam Karimov, the Uzbek national television reported.

As noted, the legislative chamber and senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan will gather for the extraordinary joint session on September 8. One of the topics on the agenda will be discussion of successor to I. Karimov.

The head of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov died on September 2 in Tashkent after the brain hemorrhage. The funeral of the President of Uzbekistan took place in his native city Samarkand on September 3.

Being the first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist party of the Uzbek SSR I. Karimov became the head of Uzbekistan in 1989. On March 24, 1990, in the course of the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR was elected as the President.

Later I. Karimov won the general elections in 1991. In a nationwide referendum held on February 27, 2002, the presidential term was decided to extend from 5 to 7 years.
