Azerbaijan to invests $60 million in Iran’s railway network

Beijing. March 26. Silkroadnews - Azerbaijan invests $60 million to develop the Astara railway freight station in the west of the Iranian province of Gilan, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports citing Hossein Ashuri, vice president of Iranian railways.
The station has been ceded to Azerbaijan for a period of 15 years, Ashuri said during the inspection of Astara (Azerbaijan) - Astara (Iran) railway project.
According to him, this section of the railway will be opened on Thursday during the planned visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Azerbaijan. In addition, it is planned to sign a US$500 mln agreement that Azerbaijan will allocate to realize the project of construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, IRNA reported.
The Kazvin-Rasht-Astara (Iran) - Astara railway (Azerbaijan) is a part of the North-South transport corridor, which will connect Northern Europe with South-East Asia, via cooperation of the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia.
