Caspian countries intend to expand the use of cargo ships ro-ro

Almaty. November 19. Silkroadnews - Caspian countries intend to expand the use of ro-ro cargo ships, reports Iran.ru.
"Director of the Department of transit and tariff of the Ports and Maritime of Iran Khosrou Sarai during a press conference, said that the most important documents adopted at the 7th joint meeting of the heads of the sea ports of the Caspian states in Sary became a memorandum on the development of combined transport and use on Caspian Ro-Ro", - says the publication.
According to Khosrou Sarayi, the development of combined transport will significantly accelerate and simplify the transportation of goods between the ports of the Caspian states, and the use of Ro-Ro will minimize delivery times of goods from point of departure to final destination.
Head of the Department said that the representatives of the ports of the Caspian states at the meeting came to an understanding about the fact that with proper planning Caspian ports will gradually be fully prepared for the implementation of combined freight transport by sea, rail and road transport.
According Sarai, the meeting agreed that the following 8th meeting of heads of Caspian states' ports will be held in Turkmenistan in the port of Turkmenbashi.
7th meeting of the leaders of the ports of the Caspian states was held in Sari, the provincial capital of Mazandaran. It was attended by representatives of the 13 ports of the five Caspian states, Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
Ro-Ro is used to transport vehicles and other wheeled vehicles. They are equipped with special platforms that are being transferred between the cargo deck of the vessel and the port quay and allow motor vehicles to freely move on the ship with its cargo.
