Beijing. Jul 9. Silkroadnews - China and Italy signed an agreement on construction of a solar power station in the historic city of Yazd, the Iranian Telegraph Agency (IrTAG) reports.
Yesterday, on the occasion of the first anniversary of registering Yazd on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Chinese company Sinosteel and the Italian Denikon signed an agreement on the construction of a 500-1,000-megawatt solar power plant, 20,000 solar panels of 5 megawatts and a solar panel factory, the Islamic Republic News Agency reports.
Yazd is the first adobe city in the world and is the second historical city after Venice, Italy. It became the 22nd man-made object of Iran, included in the World Heritage List along with such cities as Rome, Paris, London, Istanbul and Cairo. Yazd is located in an oasis on a plateau, surrounded by mountains between the deserts Dasht-e Kavir in the north and Dasht-e Lut in the south. The city is a unique monument of the traditional architecture of people living in the desert, representing a single complex of residential buildings and religious objects of different eras. The area is considered as of special importance for Iran’s solar energy development.
