Almaty. November 15. Silkroadnews - China and Japan have agreed to strengthen bilateral ties, The Asahi Shimbun reported.
“Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took further steps toward improving ties with China before the 40th anniversary of the two nations’ friendship treaty next year during a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang,” the report said.
The meeting took place two days after the meeting between Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping. It is noted that this is a very rare situation when Japanese prime minister meets with two top Chinese leaders in such a quick succession.
Abe and Li confirmed the need to further improve bilateral ties, and also agreed to hold a meeting of leaders of Japan, China and South Korea in Tokyo. At this trilateral meeting China will be represented by Li Keqiang.
“Aggressive change has begun to appear recently in ties between China and Japan. It means that we must further develop a goodwill relationship and overcome any difficulties that lie between us. We intend to make every effort to move closer,” the agency quoted Li saying.
Two leaders have reportedly discussed issues related to North Korea and confirmed that both countries share the objective of denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. They also agreed to further deepen cooperation to ensure the peace and stability in the region, including measures on realization of the UN Security Council’s sanctions.
Leaders also confirmed the need for closer interaction between the economic sectors of Japan and China.
“Economic development in China represents an opportunity for Japan, and we hope the Chinese economy can develop in a stable and sustainable manner,” Abe said.
