Almaty. April 21. Silkroadnews - China and Pakistan signed a number of mutually beneficial agreements in the framework of the state visit of President Xi Jinping to Pakistan, reported the newspaper "Zhenmin Zhibao".
"During a state visit to Pakistan, President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif witnessed the signing of more than 50 agreements on bilateral cooperation, in particular in areas such as infrastructure, energy and agriculture", - said in a statement.
It is noted that the agreements affect the establishment of Sino-Pakistani economic corridor and the construction of highways, railways and energy projects that will link Pakistan's Gwadar deep-sea port with the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Republic (Northwest China).
According to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a demonstration project of cooperation between the two countries, which is essential for peace and prosperity in the region.
According to foreign media reports, the project is estimated at $46 billion. The length will be about 3 thousand km. Highway will connect the largest Pakistani port of Gwadar and regional with Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Republic.
According to the project to create an economic corridor, the Chinese authorities and banks will finance companies, and those will invest in the construction of infrastructure facilities. By 2017, should be put into operation a new hydroelectric power plant, a number of projects on solar and wind energy. This will help Pakistan to produce annually an additional 10 400 MW of electricity.
Between countries will be stretched the fiber optic cable.
The main problem is to ensure safety during construction and operation of CPEC, which will pass through the mountain areas under the impact of "Taliban" and other terrorist groups.
