China and US plan to build a nuclear power plant in Turkey - mass-media

Almaty. March 28. Silkroadnews - China and the US plan the construction of the third nuclear power plant (NPP) in Turkey, Trend writes referring to the Turkish media.

Turkey has been negotiating the construction of the third nuclear power plant with the US Westinghouse Electric Company and China’s State Nuclear Technology Corporation (SNPTC).

Earlier the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources reported there will be three nuclear power plants built in the country. The first one Akkuyu NPP is planned to be built in cooperation with Russia.

The intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Turkey on cooperation in the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant at Akkuyu near Mersin in southern Turkey was signed in 2010.

The construction of nuclear power plant, the report says, is expected to be completed in 2020.

The second nuclear power plant in Turkey will be built in the province of Sinop on the coast of the Black Sea. In April 2015 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ratified the agreement between Turkey and Japan on cooperation in the nuclear field. The agreement with Japan on the construction of Turkey’s second nuclear power plant in Sinop province was signed in 2013. The project is planned to be completed by 2023.
