Almaty. August 17. Silkroadnews – China called Washington’s international report on state of affairs with religion a political prudishness, Regnum agency reports referring to Xinhua newspaper.
“Washington has newly released an annual international religion report, which attacked China’s religious policies and status, and kept listing China among “countries of particular concern”, the report quotes article by Xinhua. According to the newspaper, “the groundless assertions were nothing but a political bigotry held by the U.S. government. They once again laid bare Washington's penchant for interfering in another country's internal affairs”.
“While still reeling from the death and violence seen at a white-nationalist rally in the city of Charlottesville, the United States should take a minute to reflect on its own human rights situation before pointing accusing fingers at China”, the article said.
It is emphasized that the Chinese people of all ethnic groups live under full religious freedom, ruled by the state laws and the Constitution of the country.
As explained, the State Department report on the situation in China for 2016 draws conclusions based on unconfirmed information reported by the media and NGOs, which cannot be considered reliable sources of information.
“Meanwhile, flaunting the banner of religion should by no means become a loophole that enables the avoidance of penalties for criminal activities. Some religious extremists, splittists and terrorists advocate violence within Chinese territory in the name of seeking religious freedom and human rights”, the article stresses.
It is noted that China has made a great progress in recent years on the issue of human rights protection, while the U.S. should pay “close attention” to its own problems, including a high level of crime and racism.
“Against the backdrop of the recent clash between white supremacists and their opponents, the U.S. accusations against China simply lay bare the double standard it employs. During the weekend’s deadly clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia, a driver plowed his car through a group of counter demonstrators, sending bodies flying into mid-air, killing a 32 year-old woman and wounding nearly two dozens more. Washington should put an end to its political bigotry and stop interfering in other’s domestic affairs releasing unreliable reports year after year”, the agency says noting that racism and violence are serious problems of a divided U.S. society.
