Almaty. November 6. Silkroadnews - China calls for closer cooperation with the U.S. to develop a new generation of nuclear power, Xinhua news agency reported.
“Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has called for closer China-U.S. cooperation in developing the next-generation nuclear power technology, as he met with Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and chairman of TerraPower,” the report said.
Giving a high appraisal of the China-U.S. partnership in this area, Li said that the two countries’ companies have established a joint venture in which each of the partners owns half of the shares and agrees to share the intellectual property rights.
TerraPower, LLC has signed an agreement to create a joint venture with China National Nuclear Corporation to form the Global Innovation Nuclear Energy Technology Co., Ltd. The two companies plan to work together to complete the design of the Travelling Wave Reactor (TWR) and commercialize this technology.
According to Li, China hopes to combine its potential of local talented specialists and advanced overseas technologies and using effective Internet platform promote technological progress that the world will benefit from.
Recognizing the importance of the next generation nuclear power in the development of future energy technologies, Gates said it is important to ensure that the energy supply is clean, safe and reliable.
He said his company appreciates cooperation with the Chinese counterpart, values talented Chinese specialists and will make every effort to implement the joint plan.
