Almaty. August 11. Silkroadnews – China is working on repression network that lets cameras identify cars and humans, The Sun reports.
“Researchers at a Chinese university have revealed the results of an investigation aimed at creating what they have dubbed a “repression network”, which can identify cars from “customized paintings, decorations or even scratches””, the publication says.
The system is said to allow law enforcement agencies to identify cars of criminals, even if the latter use fake license plates.
It is reported that the developed technology can also be used for facial recognition.
According to the publication, this could pose a threat to personal freedom, as “it would allow governments or corporations to track the movements of innocent people or automatically fine them for minor crimes”. This is also bad news for motorists, as the system allows for more effective detection and fining of drivers for excess speed, the publication notes.
At the same time, the publication reports that the technology is at an early stage of development and its widespread use will not begin soon.
