China develops technology standards for autonomous vehicles

Beijing. February 9. Silkroadnews - China is developing technology standards for autonomous vehicles, the newspaper “People’s Daily” reports.
“China is drafting technology standards for autonomous vehicles and setting up test bases,” the report said.
“We are working with relevant departments to formulate polices and guidelines for road tests, so as to drive autonomous vehicle technology forward,” Transport Minister Li Xiaopeng said.
According to the experts, the autonomous driving technologies can improve the safety and efficiency of transport making the industry more environmentally friendly and improving the quality of service.
“China has made breakthroughs in autonomous ships and automated rail transportation. The country is further promoting studies on autonomous driving technology,” the agency quoted Li saying.
On December 18, 2017, Beijing published the country’s first road test guidelines for self-driving vehicles. For this purpose, Daxing District in Beijing had been chosen as a location for the tests.
“Although autonomous technology can bring a prosperous future to the transport industry, its mass application still needs time and more research, development, and improvements, as well as tests,” Li said.
