Beijing. April 6. Silkroadnews - China’s manufacturer of solar photovoltaic modules Znshine Solar has developed graphene-coated modules raising efficiency and cutting the cost of converting light to electricity, the China Daily newspaper reported.
The modules that have a thin layer of graphene made from a single layer of carbon atoms make it easier for light to pass through, raising efficiency of converting light to electricity and reducing operating costs.
Cost reductions will be ensured by using new generation technologies rather than switching to production of poor-quality and short-lived products.
Photovoltaic modules coated with graphene have been jointly developed by Znshine Solar and the University of Science and Technology of China.
Due to its unique electronic, optical and thermal properties, graphene was included in the list of new materials of great importance for industrial development under the national science and technology innovation program for the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).
China has become one of the world’s most dynamic innovators in the research and application of graphene technology, contributing to more than half of the global patent applications in this sector.
According to China’s National Energy Administration, solar photovoltaic systems produced 52.83 GW in 2017, compared to 34.54 GW in 2016 and accounting for about 50% of the expected global demand for solar energy.
