China has risen by 4 points ranking 79th in Corruption Perceptions Index 2016

Almaty. January 25. Silkroadnews – China has risen by 4 points ranking 79th in Corruption Perceptions Index 2016, report by Transparency International says.

According to the report, in 2016 the corruption perception index ranked 176 countries’ public sectors.

China ranks 79 having got 40 points. The top five includes Denmark and New Zealand, followed by Finland (89), Sweden (88) and Switzerland. With no country being completely free from corruption, the states ranking the top of the list are characterized by open government, freedom of press, civil liberties and independent judiciary.

For the tenth consecutive year Somalia shows the worst results of the index this year gaining only 10 points. South Sudan ranks second worst from the bottom with a score of 11, followed by North Korea (12) and Syria (13). The states at the bottom of the index are characterized by widespread impunity for corruption, poor governance and weak public and civil institutions.

Kazakhstan scored 29 points out of 100 and ranked 31st sharing the position with Russia, Ukraine, Iran and Nepal. Afghanistan ranks 169, Uzbekistan – 156, Tajikistan – 151, Kyrgyzstan – 136.

69% of 176 countries stay below 50 points in the index score (0 is perceived as a very high level of corruption, 100 – as a very low level of corruption). This shows the massive and widespread corruption in the public sector all around the world. This year a growing number of countries in the index fell showing the need for urgent action, the report says.

The index shows the perception of the public sector corruption level throughout 176 countries and is calculated on a scale from 0 (extremely high level of corruption) to 100 (extremely low).
