China, Kazakhstan, Japan and Russia have agreed on cooperation in building the joint power grid in Northeast Asia

Almaty. March 31. Silkroadnews - In Beijing State Grid Corporation of China, South Korean electric power corporation KEPCO, Japan’s SoftBank investment corporation and “Rosseti” company have signed a memorandum on cooperation to form an interconnected electric power grid in Northeast Asia, Xinhua news agency reports.

As reported at the 2016 Global Energy Interconnection Conference 2016 opened in Beijing, the future interconnected electric power grid in Northeast Asia will connect the bases of renewable energy sources located in Mongolia, North-East and North China, and the Russian Far East with the centers of electricity consumption in the Northern China, Japan and Republic of Korea. Its establishment will boost the large-scale development and utilization of renewable energy sources in the region.

According to the report, these four countries’ share accounts for 78% of Asia’s electricity needs.
The conference participants noted the establishment of the interconnected electric power grid will contribute to the regional cooperation in the field of electricity trade and energy production, development of low-carbon electricity industry and environment protection.
