Beijing. May 3. Silkroadnews - Chinese authorities have transferred anti-ship missile systems and surface-to-air missile systems to the disputed islands in the South China Sea, TASS reported citing CNBC.
The systems have been delivered to three of fortified outposts west of the Philippines in the South China Sea within the past 30 days, the report said.
The systems in question allegedly allow the Chinese military to strike surface vessels within a radius of 295 nautical miles (about 546 km), and also hit air targets at a distance of 160 nautical miles (about 296 km).
The television channel quotes a Pentagon spokesman saying in this regard “we have consistently called on China, as well as other claimants, to refrain from further land reclamation, construction of new facilities, and militarization of disputed features, and to commit to managing and resolving disputes peacefully with other claimants. The further militarization of outposts will only serve to raise tensions and create greater distrust among claimants.”
